Mickie Calkins

MICKIE CALKINS is the Director of Co-Innovation and Prototyping at CableLabs, a Silicon Valley technology research lab developing new approaches and solutions for the network communications industry. Mickie is a habitual instigator who has enjoyed a 30+ year career working with and leading technical teams in organizations like Hewlett-Packard, Plantronics, Texas Instruments and two silicon valley start-ups. Always looking for adventure, she worked as a technical program manager to drive the development of personal and enterprise computers, mobile applications as well as gaming systems and accessories. As a senior leader and manager, she was responsible for managing highly technical teams delivering solutions into a many industries including: aerospace/satellites, distance learning, video communication, collaboration technologies and retail digital displays. Mickie holds 3 patents for the design of user interfaces associated with media consumption in the home as well as a design innovation award for her contribution developing an award winning remote control for Hewlett-Packard. She is the creator of and is a frequent speaker at CableLabs Innovation Boot Camp, a week-long skills immersion program aimed at helping corporate innovators and entrepreneurs kick-start their ideas. Most recently, she has agreed to be an innovation coach for UpRamp, an accelerator designed to connect established start-ups with the the cable industry. She holds a Bachelors degree in Technical Journalism and Computer Science from Colorado State University and is a member of WICT (Women in Cable Telecommunications), ACM, SIGChi and IEEE. For fun, she hosts CableLabs’ Women In Technology Wine & TekStadium Tour at CableLabs conferences. When not passionately pursuing simplicity in design and execution, you can find her buying and testing out consumer gadgets, walking the coastline with her dog and listening to audio books.


Jennifer Cooper

JENNIFER COOPER is Global Head of Media & Entertainment and Broadcast Industry Strategy & Marketing at Adobe.  She brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, business development and strategy management in technology, publishing, and digital media industries.  Her work with C-level digital media executives provides her with extensive knowledge of publishing, media, and entertainment industries as well as best business practices and solutions.  Prior to joining Adobe, Jennifer was Founder and CEO of Mixercast, a social applications company.  Before that, she served as Executive Director of Business Development for Yahoo! Inc., where she designed and launched Yahoo!’s first video subscription service and managed large media industry relationships including Hearst, Scripps, ABC/Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, Fox, and NBC Universal.  She was responsible for crafting and implementing broadband video content strategy, sourcing and acquisitions for co-branded portals such as ATT Yahoo! DSL, Verizon Yahoo! DSL, Rogers Yahoo! and BT Yahoo!.  Jennifer began her career managing sales at enterprise technology companies such as Oracle, Xerox, and IBM before advancing into strategic business development positions at VXtreme Inc. (now the Microsoft Windows media platform) and Microsoft.  As founder and executive vice president of nCommand Inc., Jennifer served on the board of directors and was responsible for securing initial rounds of Venture financing, as well as creating initial client relationships for nCommand’s products.  Jennifer holds a dual B.S. degree in computer science and marketing from San Francisco State University.  She also participated in the MBA program at UC Davis and studied law at Golden Gate University.

Sarah Gaeta

SARAH GAETA, Vice President and General Manager, Guides. Sarah leads the Guides business in the Discovery Business Group at Rovi. Bringing PayTV Guides to millions of households worldwide leading a team of ~100 engineers, professional services, business development and product managers to deliver compelling product offerings promoting Rovi’s business and market growth and retention strategies.
Prior to Rovi Corporation Sarah was VP & GM of the Dragon Desktop business unit at Nuance Corporation, overseeing Dragon Naturally Speaking, Dragon Dictate and Dragon Assistant. She has 20+ years executive leadership experience at Ricoh EWS, Motorola Mobility, Plastic Logic and Adobe Systems, including Product Marketing & Management, Strategic Planning and Business and Partner Development. Sarah holds a BA from Stanford University and a Ed.M. from Harvard University.

Margret Schmidt

MARGRET SCHMIDT is TiVo's Chief Design Officer, and Vice President of Product Development.  She leads the engineering and user experience teams for domestic and international TiVo products, including DVRs and set-top boxes, and iOS, Android, and Web apps.  Margret has been with TiVo since 2001, and holds nine patents.  Margret is an alumna of UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering and Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.  She has a 2006 Primetime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Television, and has been named one of the Most Powerful Women in Cable (Top Women in Technology list) for six years running (2010-2015) by CableFAX Magazine.  She is a 2013 YWCA Silicon Valley Tribute to Women honoree, and one of Silicon Valley Business Journal's Women of Influence 2013.  She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Northern California chapter of Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), and the Advisory Council for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.    Margret is an invited speaker on design, the future of TV, and women in technology and leadership, at events that include SXSW, CES, The TV of Tomorrow Show, Lead On CA, WITI, NCTC, and CableLabs.  You can follow her at @tivodesign.
