2016 Woman of the Year

Cheryl Cox - Women of the Year

CHERYL COX is the Director of Business Development for Comcast Spotlight California, overseeing Digital, Automotive, Research, Marketing and Integrated Partnerships.   Cheryl collaborates with sales leaders across our CA Region to create and execute multi-market campaigns for clients such as Covered CA, Universal Studios/NBCU, and more.  She originally joined the company in 2005 as a Field Marketing Manager and was promoted in 2007.  Cheryl has been a supportive member of WICT since 2006.

Prior to joining Comcast, she was at KTVU-TV for 12 years, growing into the General Sales Manager position overseeing Sales & Traffic operations.  She began her career at JD Powers & Associates in global based marketing and business development, and then transitioned to media buying at McCain Erickson/LA and Benton & Bowles/NY prior to stepping into Sales.
Cheryl holds a BA degree in Psychology and Economics from UCLA.  She participated in the inaugural class of Spotlight’s Leadership Exposure and Development program (LEAD) and was a 2014 Comcast Spotlight President’s Club winner.   She also serves as an advisory board member to Stepping Stone, SF – a recovery home for working women.  She is an avid reader and fan of the NY Times crossword puzzle, and resides in San Francisco with her husband Rob, while also regularly traveling to the East Coast to spend time with their family - Ben, Soyeon and baby Hannah. 


2016 Advocate of the Year

Derek Herider - Advocate of the Year

DEREK HERIDER is Area Vice President for Comcast California.  17 years in the industry working in Technical Operations, Business Service Operations, Customer Care and Service Delivery.  Derek currently leads a field and network operations team of 750+ in California’s Northeast bay.   Derek moved to California in early 2015 from Denver Colorado where he spent 20 years, 15 of those working in Comcast’s Mountain West region and the West Division office.

Derek is a U.S. Army veteran and has three daughters Kaetlyn, Lauren and Megan.  Derek holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Network and Telecommunications Management and Master of Business Administration from Colorado Christian University.

Ingrid Nelson - Keynote Speaker

INGRID NELSON is the Regional Vice President for Comcast Spotlight California, overseeing sales operations in San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno and Monterey.  She originally joined the company in 2007 as Vice President and General Manager of the San Francisco operation.  Prior to joining Comcast, she was a Vice President and Senior Consultant for The Center for Sales Strategy, where she provided sales and management consulting to a breadth of media organizations including Comcast, Hearst Television and Cox Media.

Her career in media included positions in business development, marketing and production in the Cleveland television market.  She also spent three years in radio, working for Clear Channel Cleveland as the Business Development Manager for six stations.  While in Cleveland, she spearheaded efforts to produce the city’s annual July 4th fireworks, Holiday Parade, and Millennium event.  Prior to joining the Center for Sales Strategy, she was General Manager of KNAZ-TV (an NBC affiliate in Northern Arizona).

Nelson is a graduate of the prestigious Betsy Magness Leadership Institute at the Center for Creative Leadership and has attended the Comcast-sponsored Executive Leadership program at the Wharton School.   She has been named a WICT (Women in Cable Telecommunications) Mentor of the Year and was named Sales/Marketing Person of the Year by the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters during her time in that market.  She also attended the Leadership Flagstaff program while working in Arizona.  She has served on advisory committees and boards for United Way, the Red Cross, The Ad Council, Futures Against Violence and others.

Nelson lives in San Francisco with her husband, John Schreiner, an artist.  They have three children who live in Seattle, Atlanta and Taiwan with their respective families

Mike Yam, Master Of Ceremonies

MIKE YAM, joined Pac-12 Networks at its August 2012 launch after spending nearly four years at ESPN where he served as an anchor on SportsCenter, as well as being heavily involved in the Network’s NBA, college football and basketball coverage. Yam currently hosts all of Pac-12 Networks’ pre, half, and postgame shows for football and men’s basketball, in addition to Pac-12 Playbook for football and basketball (throughout their respective seasons) and Football Weekly every Wednesday night. He also lends his voice and expertise on numerous other shows and features for both the Networks’ linear and digital channels. Previously, Yam was a regular voice on the radio as co-host of ESPN Fantasy Focus Basketball and a frequent fill-in on ESPN Radio and its affiliate in New York City. Prior to ESPN, Yam had stints as anchor of NBA-TV’s Game Night and providing daily sports updates on the College Sports Television Network (CSTV). A graduate of Fordham University and winner of the Marty Glickman Play-by-Play award, Yam began his broadcasting career hosting One-on-One on WFUV radio in New York.
